| While there are animal shelters for both dogs and cats, and while some zoos or sanctuaries will accept stray and or injured wild animals, there seems to be no equivilency in the world of birds. It is for this reason that various bird clubs have been created, of which the Parrot Fanciers Club to which I belong is one. We have established the first bird sanctuary on Long Island in Lindenhurst. We routinely accept stray, unwanted, or injured birds and give and or find them loving homes. Our mission is to raise money using a variety of methologies to accomplish our goals.

| Central New York Cage Bird Club - as advocates of "better care for birds," we are constantly looking for ways to increase public awareness of the benefits of responsible bird keeping.
Exhibitions are one of our ways to show the general public, and bird fanciers alike, what bird keeping is all about.
Organized in 1990 for the fundamental purpose of sharing our knowledge and techniques with people who have similar interests.
Through informal discussions and monthly newsletters, we learn about each others' bird keeping techniques and get valuable tips on feeding, cage care, training, breeding and an overall understanding of our pets behavior.
Inviting guest speakers, such as local breeders, pet store operators and vets, we get a chance to increase our awareness on issues that are vital to us, and keep us up to date on the latest products and services available.
Our club also takes great pride in providing an outreach program where members and their birds are available to do presentations at various local organizations/establishments such as church groups, scout meetings and nursing homes.
The Club hosts an annual spring exhibition, open to the public, where pet birds are on display and their owners are available to answer any questions relating to their individual birds, or cage birds in general. More than a dozen vendors are on hand offering everything imaginable for birds or bird-loving humans! A portion of each year's profits is always donated to several avian-related programs such as MARE and other worthwhile causes.
In 2001, the Club became incorporated and received its official nonprofit status which will allow us to pursue our long range goals which include, but certainly are not limited to establishing the first avian rescue and adoption program in the Central New York area.
Meetings are the third Sunday of the month from 1:00PM - 4:00PM at the Liverpool Masonic Temple, 608 Oswego Road, Liverpool, New York.
Member's healthy birds are allowed and encouraged to attend our meetings - assuming that they have been in the owner's possession for at least 60 days (or been hatched at the owner's residence/business). Owners are (as usual) responsible for cleaning up after their own birds.
